We seek to simulate real-world U.S. Navy Carrier Air Wing and squadron tactics, procedures and execution as closely as possible. However we are still easygoing and we strive to achieve a light hearted attitude towards DCS.

We hold Operations every Tuesday and Thursday at 20:30 Central European Time. But there is almost always someone around to fly with. We host two dedicated servers that have missions running 24/7.

Required are your airframe of choice (F-14B or F/A-18C), the Supercarrier module. Our training Phase Takes Place on the Marianas Map and on the Nevada Map. As we have now reached our deployment phase however we will be flying on the Kola map until the end of the year.

In Virtual Carrier Air Wing 17 the Tomcats are flown by VF-103 Jolly Rogers and the Hornets are flown by VFA-34 Blue Blasters. When applying to join Virtual CVW-17 you will be asked to pick one platform (F-14B Pilot, F-14B RIO, F/A-18C Pilot). You will then qualify on that platform and join the respective squadron. It is possible to be qualified in multiple aircraft but you will need to join only one squadron. Initially you will need to stick to one, because mastery of an airframe takes time!

Virtual CVW-17 is aimed at experienced Virtual Aviators. For you application to be accepted you must meet certain requirements (see requirements in #about-us) After your application was accepted either the CAG or DCAG will schedule an interview with you. After that you will join one of two Fleet Replacement Squadrons (FRS), either VF-101 for tomcats or VFA-106 for hornets. In the FRS you will go through a 9 flight syllabus to train everything from Primary Formation, Tactical Formation, CASE I recovery, to BVR. If you are already very experienced in those disciplines multiple flights can be completed at once.

Strictly speaking, no we do not. You sign up for missions and trainings on a weekly basis. We get that this is a hobby and not everyone has that much time. That being said, at the level of flying that we do here, regular flying is advisable to stay current. If at any point you will not have time for a longer period, contact your squadron staff to let them know.

Virtual Carrier Air Wing Seventeen does not suit everyone. We have a very specific brand within DCS. That is the beauty of DCS as a whole, there is a large variety of groups in DCS that have their own specific culture. If you are looking for a multiplayer experience there are a lot of choices available to you. Virtual CVW-17 is all about Naval Aviation, our members have years of experience flying and fighting our Virtual Planes. So in addition to an organized multiplayer experience we offer a large amount of knowledge in how to "realistically" play this game. Virtual CVW-17 strives to simulate the fun aspects of Naval Aviation. When we go into missions we take a planned calculated approach. We develop and adjust real life tactics to use in our missions. We make sure that every mission starts with us taking off and it ends with us landing, all the time observing proper procedures. Virtual CVW-17 is the right unit for you if you have a mature approach to DCS, and want to learn new things.
